INDIA
This isn’t your typical yoga retreat … it’s an adventure-yoga retreat baby!
We first set foot in New Delhi to begin our experience of India and spend the night in the city. We then venture north and follow the Ganges River to Haridwar as we decompress from our travels (and some possible jet lag) as we experience and get a feel of true Indian hospitality with our host family at Johari House. We will immerse ourselves in the culture, delicious home made cuisine, Ayurvedic consultations, volunteer work at the local orphanage, with other activities such as astrology readings, cooking classes, painting, and shopping to really immerse ourselves in the community and culture - all in the comfort and care of the family of the late Harish Johari, reknown author and spiritual yoga teacher of the previous century.
We then press north to the Himalayan foothills of Rishikesh, a city renown as a world center of yogic study and meditation. We’ll plunge in the cool, silt-blue glacial waters of the holy Ganges River that flow in the valley. We will explore the hilly avenues and thoroughfare occupied by roaming decorated cows, meet a living saint for spiritual consult, aarti, and breathe the fresh air and experience the serenity of the area.
We press on even further north to Dharamshala, a slice of Tibet in India where the Dalai Lama resides. Where we have an unforgettable trek (mileage TBD/optional) through the Himalayas… because what’s a Fearvana Yoga retreat without a little struggle? And if we are lucky, we may even get to hear a lecture from the Dalai Lama himself (he is in session in October!) Through the thin slivers of winding mountainous roads, although we are still in India, we can see the exiled Tibetan government at home here, interact with monks, learn the culture, see the monasteries and temples in the clouds, and immerse yourself in the aura of fluttering prayer flags and the unique feel of Mcleod Ganj.
We will cap off our adventure with a train ride to Agra to see the renown Taj Mahal, to marvel in its love story and wonder (and maybe even the monkeys).
And of course, daily yoga in the styles of Fearvana, as we navigate the spiritual adventure of healing movement and internal exploration.
